WAYNE AND DAVE’S AUTOMOTIVE LATE MODELS
Alex Anderson is coming on strong as we hit the halfway point in the season. He posted a blazing fast qualifying time, and then went on to a second place finish in the main event earning the most passing points of the race, his best finish so far this season. He is definitely poised for his first win of the year going into June 14th. But with his second place finish in the heat race, and win in the main event, Chris Peedan extended his point lead coming out of our Memorial Day weekend race. Randy Wilkins again won the 8 lap heat race, but wasn’t quite able to follow it up in the main as they learn a new car this season.
Bobby Dezarov claimed his 3rd win of the season back on May 24th, but Don Oatley continues to get faster setting fast time in qualifying, winning the heat race, and picking up the 10 points for each of those point earning events. He also passed the most cars in the main event, picking up 3 additional bonus points earning the most Championship points for the evening.
Will Cottrell posted a very fast qualifying time as well, but couldn’t quite turn that into a main event win, settling for third position, with DJ Jeffrey fourth coming off his win back on May 10th.
The Championship chase continues to heat up this Saturday June 14th as our Street Stocks battle for the lead.
LUCAS OIL MINI STOCKS
We are expecting to see a couple of new entries into our Mini Stock field this Saturday, and they will have to run fast to keep up with our point leader Robert Heflin. Robert again found victory for his third win of the season back on Memorial Day, and he again looks to extend his point lead this Saturday. But Dale and Rich Connors will have something to say about that. The father / son team set fast times last event, and the new 11 mini stock continues to improve each week.
Will he take his first mini stock win? You have to be there to find out!!!
A big thank you to Lucas Oil for assisting us with this division.
With a growing field in our Hobby Division, a couple of Bakersfield teams joined the fun last race, and they didn’t go away empty handed. JR Daves won the main event, taking home a trophy from his first visit to our facility. He normally races on the dirt, and invited our teams to come to Bakersfield and play there as well. Joseph Pablo rebounded from a not so great night back on May 10th, to a solid second place finish right on the tail of Daves. He also picked up an additional 5 bonus passing points for passing the most cars in the event. Visiting car Don Mead finished his first race with us in third spot. So both Bakersfield teams did well in their trip over the hill and we hope to see them back soon. Point leader Justin Quinn also had a good night with a fourth place finish in the main, and set fast time for the evening. The Wolfe clan (The Wolf Pack as we know them) won each of the heat races. Richard Wolfe Jr won heat #1, and Matthew Wolfe won heat #2.
Competition has been intense in the Hobby’s, and we expect to see some more door banging action this Saturday!
What’s a skid plate? We take the rear tires off the car, put solid flat metal plates on instead and watch the mayhem as the guys and girls try to keep them under control. As you can imagine, there is lots of spinning, banging, dodging, and sliding as they try to race around the course.
Dale Connors once again claimed victory starting from way back in the field for his 3rd win of the season. But Jon Carter is improving each week taking second place with Corey Carter third. Daniel Lombard placed 4th in his first event with us, and John Dunlap finished out the top 5.
The Skid Plate field continues to grow as we watched yet another car getting built this week. What started with one car late last season, is now our largest division at the Speedway. It’s a perfect budget friendly way to begin racing for as little as $600. Come have some fun with us!!!
If you’ve seen X-games you already know what this is. If you haven’t, it’s basically a drag race obstacle course. Like drag racing, it is single elimination until there is a winner.
Dale Connors again claimed victory in Gymkhana in a showdown with Michael Forbes. We will again run Gymkhana this Saturday June 14th and are expecting even more entries. We will see some Legends joining this event in the near future along with some Drifting teams that have been invited. This will be Open Competition, so a Skid Plate car could run against a Street Stock, but the Skid Plate may well have the advantage getting around the barrels fastest.
We would like to warmly welcome Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse, Budweiser, Wayne and Dave’s Automotive, Arena Homes, Hooper’s Rear Ends, Lucas Oil Products, Ron’s Rear Ends, and Deist Safety, as some of our new supporting sponsors for 2014. A big Thank You to All!!!
And my personal thank you to Ben Ryan at Deist Safety for the donation of a number of driving suits for our Skid Plate ride a longs and guest competitors. Thank you Ben!

THE SPEEDWAY AT WILLOW SPRINGS
Our 2014 season features nine events including First Ever……Destruction in the Desert on August 9th. We just added an Open Comp “free for all” for stock cars, and our Skid Plates will be going at it as well. Then we are going to absolutely DESTROY some stuff. We just came out of a planning session with a few of the teams out of Perris Speedway, and we are going to have some big time FUN!!!
Our 1/4 mile oval is part of the eight race tracks and 600 acres that make up Willow Springs International Raceway. Internationally recognized since 1953 as among the most prestigious in the World, and as of 1996, a California State Historical Landmark. Michael Andretti, Tommy Kendall, Derrick Cope, and Nigel Mansell all hold track records at the facility.
Here is a little more detail on two terrific features you cannot get anywhere else. Once you are in the front gates, your ticket is good for the entire weekend of racing for the road course events on the grounds, in addition to our Saturday night event. The 2.5 mile Fastest Road in the West which features dramatic elevation changes, and the infamous Turn 9 with speeds approaching 200 mph. The Streets of Willow Springs, and The Horse Thief Mile, also have events just about every weekend through the year. Hangout in the pits, talk with the drivers, and get some terrific pictures. Also, there is the WSIR gift shop and full snack bar open every weekend. Take a drive up to the Budweiser Balcony and enjoy an incredible view of the Antelope Valley as well.
The second feature of our 1/4 mile oval that you can not get just about anywhere else is Tail Gating. ($5 nominal charge per vehicle) Our guests can enjoy the action from the comfort of your car should you choose. Our prime spots are very limited, so get there early for the best locations. We also have a large amount of grandstand seating for the full experience as well with FREE parking.
Our Saturday Night divisions will feature the best stock car drivers in the region as they compete for the 2014 Championship. The 4 cylinder Mini-Stocks, The Hobby and Street Stocks, and our premier division Wayne and Dave’s Late Models will be charging hard for the 2014 Championship. We had a number of new teams at practice, come out to see how they stack-up against our seasoned veterans. Get ready for some old school side by side stock car racing like it used to be. Full inverts, Restart Cone side by side yellow flag restarts, (where the drivers can pick inside or outside line). We are gonna change it up and have some fun!
Other fun events are in the planning stages, and will be announced throughout the season.
