THE TACK STABLE IN ACTON 35 for INEX Legends
Inex Legends return to The Speedway at Willow Springs for 35 laps of action this Saturday. We are expecting new teams from out of the area for this round, and promises to be a competitive fight for the trophy and check. Thank you to The Tack Stable in Acton for the additional winners purse!
WAYNE AND DAVE’S AUTOMOTIVE LATE MODELS
John Penning scored his first victory of the season in the new all Black #30 machine back in our June event. He looks to continue that success this Saturday as he battles Chris Peedan (98) for the Late Model Championship. But Alex Anderson (77) is not far behind the two point leaders and has been blazing fast lately setting fast time again. Randy Wilkins (05) continues to wrangle a new car, but walked away from June with a heat race win. Chris Douglas (1) continues to improve in his first year in the division, scoring a 4th place finish. Will Penning close the gap on point leader Peedan? You’ll have to be there to find out!
THE PINNACLE PEAK STEAKHOUSE 25 for Hobby Stocks.
Scary situation in our Hobby event last month as Richard Wolfe Jr was injured in a bad wreck in turn 2. Optimistically we understand everything is going to be ok, but our thoughts and prayers were with him as he recovers. We were once again reminded that racing can be a dangerous sport. We can never thank fellow racer and paramedic DJ Jeffrey enough for doing what he was trained and ready to do. DJ held Richard in place, climbing into the car, taking care of him until Kern County arrived. Again we are extremely optimistic Richard will again be 100 percent, and was happy to see him Facebooking on Monday. But the big thanks to DJ Jeffrey for everything he did!
Justin Quinn (19x) can simply do no wrong so far this season. Bad luck, good luck, altercations on track, all end up in the winners circle. Forced to come from the back after a call from race control, he once again prevailed having a huge points night and in cruise control with eyes firmly on the Championship. Brandon Fisk (39)of the Wolf Pack, came in second, and Brian Slocombe (15)posted his first ever Top 3. Joseph Pablo (79) had a tough points night as he chases Quinn for the Championship. Look for him to rebound this Saturday as he has three races left to catch the leader. Will he do it?
Bobby Dezarov (17) continues to lead the Street Stocks, but Don Oatley (84) in Chicken Dinner is closing fast……very fast. Oatley won the main event back in June, and is now only 9 points out from the Point. Will Cottrell continues to be super fast, and isn’t giving up on his Championship hopes just 1 point behind Oatley. Will Don come away with another win? Be there Saturday to fid out!
LUCAS OIL MINI STOCKS
Visiting driver Joe Humphrey captured his first win at our speedway, but the story was Robert Heflin (97) who ran into some bad luck early in the day. Robert jumped into the 14 truck to run the main event, but it wasn’t enough as Richard Connors (76) had a big points night and closed on the point leader Heflin coming in second to Humphrey. Things are getting very interesting as Connors begins to nip at the heels of Heflin for the 2014 Championship. Steve Patterson (00) has had a tough year technically, hoping those problems have all been worked out going into Saturday night. Patterson knows what it takes to win here, and expect a rebound.
A big thank you to Lucas Oil for assisting us with this division.
The sparks and body parts will be flying as our Skid Plate cars roll on for their Championship. Dale Connors again claimed victory on June 14th. Though starting from the very back in our full invert based on points. Jon Carter posted his best ever finish in 2nd, with Corey Carter in third. Street Stock racer Bobby Dezarov borrowed a car and finished 4th. Lots of spinning, banging, dodging, and sliding as our Skid Plates take to the track this weekend.
FLAG POLE RACING
Flag pole racing was a huge hit a few races back, and it returns as our skid plate cars put the wheels on and show the fans what a high speed traffic jam looks like. If you haven’t seen Flag Pole racing, how to describe this with words, hmmm???……A Round A Bout with two Figure 8’s down the front and back straightaways. The drivers then have to dodge each other as they come around the pole. It’s quite frankly……… a mess, as the drivers avoid each other to get to the next flag. There was a ton of sheet metal to bang out after the last one, and we expect even more this round.
If you’ve seen X-games you already know what this is. If you haven’t, it’s basically a drag race obstacle course. Like drag racing, it is single elimination until there is a winner.
Dale Connors again claimed victory in Gymkhana smoothly driving the obstacle course to win after win in the run offs. Our regular stock car teams are beginning to enjoy running in this as well as PJ Hernandez and Bobby Dezarov both joined in the fun.
This will be Open Competition, so a Skid Plate car could run against a Street Stock, but the Skid Plate may well have the advantage getting around the barrels fastest. Will one of our Legends join the field? They could have a huge advantage on our tight course.
DOUBLE SPIN TO WIN
Haven’t seen Spin to Win? You are about to, except make it DOUBLE! It’s only 3 laps, but you must Spin once per lap on both the front or back straightaways completing The Double. The boys and girls had some trouble with this one, with the outside car deciding to spin before the inside car. Needless to say, that doesn’t work well at all and resulted in some double spins into the infield…..unintentional ones! Will they all avoid each other this time? BE THERE this Saturday to see!!
The Kids Big Wheel race will get some nice prizes once again. A ride in the pace car, or throwing the green flag for a heat race. We will also have a Kids Kandy Scramble during the evening.
We would like to warmly welcome Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse, Budweiser, Wayne and Dave’s Automotive, Arena Homes, Hooper’s Rear Ends, Lucas Oil Products, Ron’s Rear Ends, and Deist Safety, as some of our new supporting sponsors for 2014. A big Thank You to All!!!

THE SPEEDWAY AT WILLOW SPRINGS
Our 2014 season features nine events including First Ever……Destruction in the Desert on August 9th. We just added an Open Comp “free for all” for stock cars, and our Skid Plates will be going at it as well. Then we are going to absolutely DESTROY some stuff. We just came out of a planning session with a few of the teams out of Perris Speedway, and we are going to have some big time FUN!!!
Our 1/4 mile oval is part of the eight race tracks and 600 acres that make up Willow Springs International Raceway. Internationally recognized since 1953 as among the most prestigious in the World, and as of 1996, a California State Historical Landmark. Michael Andretti, Tommy Kendall, Derrick Cope, and Nigel Mansell all hold track records at the facility.
Here is a little more detail on two terrific features you cannot get anywhere else. Once you are in the front gates, your ticket is good for the entire weekend of racing for the road course events on the grounds, in addition to our Saturday night event. The 2.5 mile Fastest Road in the West which features dramatic elevation changes, and the infamous Turn 9 with speeds approaching 200 mph. The Streets of Willow Springs, and The Horse Thief Mile, also have events just about every weekend through the year. Hangout in the pits, talk with the drivers, and get some terrific pictures. Also, there is the WSIR gift shop and full snack bar open every weekend. Take a drive up to the Budweiser Balcony and enjoy an incredible view of the Antelope Valley as well.
The second feature of our 1/4 mile oval that you can not get just about anywhere else is Tail Gating. ($5 nominal charge per vehicle) Our guests can enjoy the action from the comfort of your car should you choose. Our prime spots are very limited, so get there early for the best locations. We also have a large amount of grandstand seating for the full experience as well with FREE parking.
Our Saturday Night divisions will feature the best stock car drivers in the region as they compete for the 2014 Championship. The 4 cylinder Mini-Stocks, The Hobby and Street Stocks, and our premier division Wayne and Dave’s Late Models will be charging hard for the 2014 Championship. We had a number of new teams at practice, come out to see how they stack-up against our seasoned veterans. Get ready for some old school side by side stock car racing like it used to be. Full inverts, Restart Cone side by side yellow flag restarts, (where the drivers can pick inside or outside line). We are gonna change it up and have some fun!
Other fun events are in the planning stages, and will be announced throughout the season.
